Sicilia PGI is a protected geographical indication recognized in 2016 by the European Union concerning extra virgin olive oil produced with olives harvested in the territories of Sicilian municipalities and in compliance with the product specification.
The product specification prescribes a series of rules that producers must follow to obtain the mark. Among these:
Only specific olive varieties permitted, including Nocellara del Belice
Maximum quantity of 100 quintals of Sicilia PGI olives per hectare of land
Use of traditional cultivation techniques in accordance with the Control Plan
Manual olive harvesting or using only mechanical means
Milling within 6 hours of harvest only in authorized mills
Production, milling and packaging on Sicilian territory
Our farm and all our olive groves are subject to the Sicilia PGI product specification and compliance checks carried out by the Regional Institute for Wine and Oil (IRVO).
IRVO, as a control body authorized by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, oversees compliance with the product specification according to the methods and frequency provided by the Control Plan.
